Abstract

264,363. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co.). March 20, 1926. Magnetic blow-outs for electric contactors &c. have a main magnetic field 15 between pole-pieces 11 for blowing out the arc which arises between contacts 1, 3, within an arc shoot 14 and a subsidiary magnetic field 16 in an opposite direction to the main field 15, to prevent the arc from striking the arc shoot. The blow-out coil 9 is in two sections arranged on the pole-pieces 11, and the flux 16 is produced by leakage from the narrowed top and bottom portions of an external magnetic circuit 13.
