Abstract
728,638. Arc rupturing in switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 4, 1953 [Aug. 1, 1952], No. 21487/53. Class 38 (5). An arc chute comprises insulating side walls 26, 27 formed with interleaved ribs 30, 31 the edges of which over an intermediate, cooling portion WX have a slope less than that in the entrance portion VW and the arc-extinguishing portion XY. As shown, the edges are parallel to the side walls between WX so that h' = h', but h' may be less than h'. The arc is blown into the chute by a magnetic blow-out, and a fixed arcing contact has a screen as in Specification 720,021.
