Abstract
258,059. English Electric Co., Ltd., (Bremner, F. D. H.). Aug. 13, 1925. Fusible cut-outs.-The arc formed upon the blowing of a fuse 7 is deflected by horns 1, 2 on to two electrodes 8, 9 that pass the arc current through an auxiliary fuse or switch which is then ruptured or opened to extinguish the arc. The electrodes are separated by a projecting block 10 of soapstone or other insulating material, and are connected to the terminals 28, 29, Fig 2, of an auxiliary switch or fuse. The current is thus led through a coil 17 and switch contacts 12, 13. The coil 17 attracts an armature 22 that, after a short movement, moves the switch arm 24 and breaks the circuit, the arc which strikes on to horns 14, 15 being extinguished with the aid of the magnetic field of the coil 17. The blow-out coil may be continuously energized, and the switch opened by a separate coil 30, Fig. 3, into which is drawn a plunger 34 that strikes the arm 24. The switch may be opened by the movement in the field of the coil 17 of a conductor carrying the current to the switch. A single auxiliary switch or fuse may be connected to a number of main fuses. Specification 241,356, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.], is referred to.
