Abstract

187,025. Jones, F., and Mann, W. July 13, 1921. Coating-machines.-In a machine for making sets of multiple sheets by securing together a number of sheets by adhesive at or near one edge, the adhesive is applied by a roller 25, Figs. 3 and 10, mounted on an eccentric 26 on a shaft 4 and constantly rotated with the shaft 4 by the engagement of pins 27 with a diametral slot 28 in a sleeve 30 secured to the shaft 4. The shaft 4 is rotated by hand or treadle or by power and is geared to a lower shaft 6 carrying rollers cooperating with the roller 25 and with feed-rollers on the shaft 4. The roller 25 is supplied with adhesive from a receptacle 33 by contacting rotary members 34, 36, 38, the first of which is partly submerged in adhesive and is freed from excessive adhesion by a brush 35. The roller 25 is moved into or out of engagement with the sheets, in order to apply adhesive to all sheets except the last of each set, by pivotal movement of the eccentric 26 on the shaft 4 produced through linkage from operating cams, means being provided to adjust the machine for varying sizes of sheets and for varying numbers of sheets in a set.
