Abstract
185,570. Kinchin, J. F. Nov. 22, 1921. Wedging or jamming.-In a stop-valve having a pair of parallel sliding gates which engage annular chest rings in the body of the valve, an annular wedge member is provided which is flexibly mounted in the casing so that the wedging action is distributed evenly between the gates. The annular wedge member t is slightly tapered the greatest thickness being at the bottom, the inner faces of each gate being correspondingly tapered. A lug u on either side of the upper edge of the wedge member is formed with a curved upper edge, and is located in a recess v in the casing, and is kept in position by the T-head w<1> of a stud w. A further lug x is formed with a spherical head x<1> which rests freely in a cylindrical recess y at the bottom of the casing.
