Mounting and supporting.-In devices as described in the parent Specification, in which the unintentional operation of a switch, controlled by the weight of a handset, is prevented by the employment of a lost-motion device between the operating stem and the switch contacts, the stem is controlled by the weight of the handset, but is independent of the carrier. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a conical block e is slidably mounted between rollers s, t on the stem c, which projects through a gland o in the casing and is fitted at its upper end with a knob m. Normally the hand-set depresses the stem c against the action of a spring d, and the collar s engages the cone e, which forces the springs h, f and k, i into contact. When the hand-set a is removed from its cradle, the stem c rises until the collar t reaches the cone e, which then moves upwards, allowing the springs h, g and k, j to make contact. According to a modification, the stem c is situated adjacent to one side of the cradle. A snap-over device as described in the parent Specification may be combined with the lost-motion arrangement.
