Abstract

177,847. Higginson, G. S. Dec. 24, 1920. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Air, gas, and steam pressure sprayers; commingling jets.-Apparatus for mixing two fluids, atomizing and distributing a liquid or emulsion, or mixing and spraying water and steam for condensing the latter, comprises four coaxial parts 1 - - 4 supported and registered on one another to form three chambers 9, 12, 13 having contiguous annular orifices from which the fluids issue in three intersecting jets. The flow of the mixture has a radial outward component. Fluid or emulsion is supplied to the chamber 9 through an eccentrically disposed pipe 16 connected to the part 1 and passing through the parts 2, 3. The other fluid is supplied to the chambers 12, 13 through a coaxial pipe 8 and between lugs 14, 15 on the parts 2, 3 respectively. Loose washers 21, 22, 23 serve as means for adjusting the widths of the orifices. The apparatus, when used as a burner, is supplied with gaseous or liquid fuel to the chamber 9, the liquid fuel being under a constant head, and air inlet pressure to the other chambers.
