Abstract
175,541. Shave, G. J., and London General Omnibus Co., Ltd. Feb. 25, 1921. Omnibuses. - A vehicle having seats for passengers inside, and on the roof of, the body and a staircase communicating with the roof has the staircase and the roofseats removable. The roof 22, Figs. 2 and 7, carries permanent stanchions 21 to which are bolted uprights carrying a rail 16 surrounding the vehicle top. Fixed to these uprights on each side of the vehicle are a longitudinal bar 24 supported by lugs 25 on the stanchions 21 and a higher bar 27 supporting the roof-seats 14. The seats 14 have legs 28 secured by angle brackets 30 and bolts 31 to longitudinal slats 29 which are screwed to sockets on the roof so as to be detachable therefrom. A staircase 15 leads from the interior of the body to a cut-away portion of the roof, a detachable cover 17, Fig. 12, covering the aperture when the staircase is removed. A ribbed closure member 34 around the cover 17 is screwed on to the beaded edge 36 of the aperture, a rubber or other lining 35 making the joint watertight. Inside the body the staircase is replaced by seats secured by angle brackets fixed to their legs and screwed to permanent mounts on the vehicle floor. Advertisement boards 20, Fig. 7, may be hung on the stanchions 21 when the roof-seats are removed.
