Abstract

172,722. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., and Young, A. P. Sept. 11, 1920. Magneto-electric machines. - An ignition magneto and a generator for lighting &c. are combined in a single structure and arranged so that the generator is driven directlv from the engine and the ignition magneto driven from the generating machine through gearing, permanent magnets, preferably of cobalt steel, being used for both machines. Fig. 2 shows the casing 1, pole-piece 3, and permanent magnet 2 of the ignition magneto mounted on the generator casing 4, the generator being provided with permanent magnets 6 and polepieces 7. The ignition magneto armature is driven through gearing 8 preferably without the use of idlers and is enclosed by a cover 9.
