Abstract
1522020 Rear view mirrors SOC COMMERCIALE DU COMPTOIR DES INVENTIONS PRATIQUES POUR L'AUTOMOBILE CIPA 11 Dec 1975 (19 Dec 1974) 50868/75 Heading B7J A rear view mirror assembly, for a vehicle for towing a caravan, comprises a pair of rear view mirrors 3a, 3b, comprising mirror heads 4a, 4b, telescopic mounting arms, e.g. 13b, 14b, Fig. 4, pivoted about substantially vertical axes on mounting supports 5a, 5b which have hooks 7a, 7a (not shown), 7b, 7b for engaging under the longitudinal edges 2a, 2b of the vehicle bonnet 2, and a flexible cable 6 secured at one end to the mounting support 5a and adjustably secured at the other end to the mounting support 5b so that when the hooks 7a, 7a, 7b, 7b are engaged with the edges 2a, 2b and the bonnet 2 is closed the cable can be tensioned to secure the rear view mirrors in place. The cable adjustment is effected through a screwed sleeve mounted in a locking lever 11 pivoted to the mounting support 5b. The arm 13b, 14b can pivot, against friction and spring action, about a substantially vertical axis if the mirror head 4b receives an impact. The latter can bepivoted about the axis of the part 14b and about an axis transverse to the axis of the part 14b. Each support 5a, 5b has three resilient pads, e.g. 8b, 8b and 9b to engage the bonnet 2. The central part of the cable 6 in use bears on an intermediate member 12 on the bonnet.
