Abstract

1431778 Vehicle rear-view mirrors MAGNATEX Ltd 22 Aug 1973 [23 Aug 1972 18 Sept 1972 9 Oct 1972] 39341/72 43175/72 and 46485/72 Heading B7J A vehicle rear view mirror comprises a housing 10 containing a mirror glass 1 and supported by a flexible joint F on one end of an arm 2 which is adapted to extend into a vehicle interior through an aperture 6a in a window glass or plate 6, the other end of the arm consisting or being provided with an operating handle 4 by which the arm and hence the mirror housing may turn about ball 3 formed intermediate the arm ends and embraced in a complementary socket of a member 5 secured to mirror glass or plate 6. The housing may be retained in position by a hand nut 19 threaded on arm 2 and formed with a cavity 21 which can engage a part-spherical protuberance 17 of member 5. Joint F includes a spring 13 which biases housing 10 on to a formation 7 of arm 2 but allowing the housing to be pivoted when struck. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the mirror housing and socket 5a for ball 3 are moulded integrally and the mirror glass on backing plate 1a is adjustable within the housing by handle 4.
