868,642. Rear view mirrors for vehicles. SOC. COMMERCIALE DU COMPTOIR DE INVENTIONS PRATIQUES POUR L'AUTOMOBILE. Nov. 13, 1959 [Dec. 4, 1958], No. 38628/59. Class 103(2). A rear view mirror for a trailer towing vehicle comprises a mirror (not shown) carried by a rod 4, Fig. 2, of circular section, slidable within a tubular support 3 against the friction of a flexible sleeve packing 9 engaged in the end of the support but being prevented from rotation relative to the support, by means of a lug 10 on the rod and a blade spring 7, engaging in a longitudinal groove 6 in the support bore 5. The spring 7 is housed in a milled part 8 of the rod. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 the mirror support rod 11 is triangular in cross-section and engages in a correspondingly shaped bore 13 in the tubular support 12. The rod is prevented from being pulled completely out of the support 12, by having a notch 15 engageable by the end of a blade spring 16 normally inoperative as shown in full lines in the Figure. The tubular support may be connected to the vehicle through a sprung pivot as described with reference to Fig. 9 (not shown) whereby the mirror can return to a normal position after being hit
