Abstract
Half-discharge effects on coloured grounds are obtained by first printing cotton fabrics with thickened solutions of alkali sulphites, with metallic mordants, fixing, dunging, and then either dyeing with alizarin or other dyes appropriate to the mordant or tanning and dyeing with basic or other appropriate dyes. The fabric may be unprepared or may be previously treated with a turkey-red oil, b -naphthol, or chlorate prepare. Citric acid or lime-juice resists may be printed on simultaneously with the sulphite half-resist. According to examples:-A sulphite standard is prepared from sodium bisulphite, caustic soda, gum, water, and turpentine, with or without aluminium or chromium acetate; fabric is printed therewith, alone or simultaneously with a limejuice resist, then padded with aluminium acetate, dried, fixed, dunged, and dyed; fabric is printed with the sulphite half-resist described above, to which sodium acetate has been added, and simultaneously with a lime-juice resist, overprinted with a prussiate aniline black mixture, aged, padded with aluminium acetate, dried, fixed, dunged, and dyed; chlorate-prepared fabric is printed with the sulphite half-resist, to which a stannous salt has been added, and simultaneously with a lime-juice resist, padded with an iron mordant, dried, fixed, dunged, and dyed; b -naphthol-prepared fabric is printed with the sulphite half-resist containing chromium acetate, cover-printed with diazotized p-nitraniline and simultaneously with a chrome mordant, fixed, dunged, and dyed; fabric is printed with the sulphite half-resist, alone or in conjunction with a lime-juice resist, padded with aluminium acetate, dried, fixed, dunged, tanned, and dyed with basic dyes.
