Abstract

The sulphurized compounds of phenol described in Specification 215,012 are employed in place of tannin for mordanting cellulose acetate silk. With basic dyestuffs the tints obtained approximate to those produced on a tannin mordant and treatment with antimony salts is not necessary. The mordant may also be added to ordinary dye baths containing substantive or sulphur dyes so that the dyeings produced therewith may be strengthened with basic dyes. In an example, cellulose acetate silk is treated in a bath containing the mordant, caustic soda, and sodium phosphate, washed, and dyed with a basic dye. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the mordanting of "artificial silk" by the process and the use of sulphurized compounds of derivatives of phenol. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
