Abstract

Preparations for dyeing and printing cellulose acetate are obtained by treating unsulphonated nitrodioxylamines containing or not containing chlorine, hydroxyl or amino groups, or other substituents with the solubilizing agents of Specifications 219,349 and 224,925. In examples, pastes of a number of the above bodies are heated with sodium, potassium, or ammonium ricinoleate, with ammonium naphthenate or potassium palmitate and boiling water with or without addition of sodium oleate or stearate or other soap. The Specification contains also a list of dyestuffs which may be treated in the manner described.ALSO:Preparations for dyeing and printing cellulose acetate are obtained by treating unsulphonated nitrodianylamines containing or not containing hydroxy, chlor, amino or other substituents with the solubilizing agents of Specifications 219,349 and 224,925. In examples, pastes of 2 : 4-dinitro-41-hydroxydiphenylamine, 2 : 4-dinitrodiphenylamine, 2 : 4-dinitro-41-dimethylaminodiphenylamine, 2-nitro-4-chlordiphenylamine, 4-chlor-2-nitro-41-aminodiphenylamine and 4 : 41-dinitrodiphenylamine are heated with sodium, potassium or ammonium ricinoleate and boiling water with or without sodium oleate or stearate added. 4-Chlor-2-nitro-41-hydroxydiphenylamine is treated with ammonium naphthenate and diluted with boiling soap solution; and 4 : 21-dinitrodiphenylamine is treated with potassium palmitate and diluted with boiling sodium stearate solution. The Specification also contains a list of further dyestuffs which may be so treated.ALSO:Threads, yarns, fabrics, fibrous or other products made of or containing cellulose acetate are dyed or printed with one or more unsulphonated nitrodiarylamines containing or not containing hydroxy, chlor, amino or other substituents which have been solubilized by pretreatment with the solubilizing agents of Specifications 219,349 and 224,925. The process may be applied to mixed goods with for example cotton or other cellulose fibre or silk, wool &c., and since these fibres are dyed only slightly, if at all, resist, differential or solid effects may be obtained, and dyes or colours for the non-acetate portion may be applied either simultaneously or separately. In examples pastes of 2 : 4-dinitro-41-hydroxydiphenylamine, 2 : 4-dinitro-41-dimethylaminodiphenylamine, 2-nitro-4-chlordiphenylamine, 4-chlor-2-nitro-41-aminodiphenylamine and 4 : 41-dinitrodiphenylamine are heated respectively with sodium, potassium or ammonium sulphoricinoleate and boiling water with or without sodium oleate or stearate added, the resulting dyebaths yielding gold, brownish-gold, and greenish-yellow shades or acetate silk yarns or knitted fabrics. Further examples show the treatment of 4-chlor-2-nitro-41-hydroxydiphenylamine with naphthenic acid rendered alkaline with ammonia, and dilution with boiling soap solution to obtain a dyebath yielding reddish-yellow shades; and the treatment of 4 : 21-dinitrodiphenylamine with potassium palmitate and dilution with boiling sodium stearate solution, the dyebath obtained giving greenish-yellow shades. A cellulose acetate-cotton fabric is coloured yellow on the acetate silk and violet on the cotton by treatment in a liquor containing 2 : 4-dinitrodiphenylamine, which has been pretreated with sodium sulphoricinoleate and diluted with sodium oleate solution, and the sodium salt of dimethoxydiphenyldisazo-4-sulpho-1 : 7-dihydroxynaphthalene-m-toluylene - diamine. A cellulose acetate-Tussah silk tubular knitted fabric is dyed golden-yellow and black by treatment in a liquor containing 2 : 4-dinitro-41-hydroxydiphenylamine, pretreated with ammonium ricinoleate, and then in a separate liquor of 5 - sulpho - a - naphthaleneazo-a-naphthaleneazophenyl-a -naphthylamine-8 -sulphonic acid, formic acid and glauber salts. Further examples of suitable dyestuffs are 2 : 4-dinitro-31-methoxydiphenylamine, 2 : 4 - dinitro - 41 - aminodiphenylamine, 2 : 4-dinitro-41-chlordiphenylamine, 2 : 4-dinitrophenyl - b - naphthylamine, 2 : 4 - dinitrophenyl-41-tolylamine, 4-nitrodiphenylamine, 4-nitrophenyl-41-tolylamine, 4-nitro-41-chlordiphenylamine, 4-chlor-2-nitro-41-methoxydiphenylamine, 4-chlor-2-nitro-31-aminodiphenylamine, 4 : 41-dinitro-31-hydroxydiphenylamine, 4-nitrophenyl-41-nitro-21-tolylamine, 4 : 41-dichlor-2-nitrodiphenylamine, and 4 : 41-dinitro-21-hydroxydiphenylamine.
