Coke ovens.-In a vertical-flued oven having subways giving access to the regulating-valves, each heating flue is associated with its own gas and air regenerators. The regenerator units b are arranged in rows parallel to the length of the oven chambers, and are supplied with gas and air from mains c, g, the branches from which to the regenerator units are valve-controlled. Beneath the rows are waste-gas flues k, and in these flues are valves by which the proportions of waste gases passing through the air and gas regenerators respectively can be controlled. When using gas of high calorific value, the whole of the waste gases may be passed through the air regenerators, the gas regenerators in this case acting as recuperators.
