Abstract
419,125. Coking processes; coke ovens. CONCORDIA BERGBAU AKT.-GES., 32, Schliessfach, Oberhausen, Germany. May 7, 1934, Nos. 13744, 13745, 13746, 13747, and 13748. Convention dates, May 6, 1933, May 17, 1933, Jan. 16, 1934, Nov. 24, 1933, and March 6, 1934. [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i).] To increase the benzol content in the distillates from coke ovens, the temperature of the distillates is controlled by rapid withdrawal during the earlier period of carbonizing through channels which may be cooled, and the distillates are further heated during the later period of distillation. The heating or cooling may take place in a passage above the oven, or the heating may be effected by increased heat supply to the upper part of the carbonizing chamber. As applied to a twin flue oven with a free space above the charge, up-and-down draught flues 20, 21 communicate through an opening 22 and through byepasses 24 controlled by dampers 25, and openings may be provided, which can be closed by plugs, to admit gas from the free space in the fuel chamber to the heating flues 24. The distillation gases may alternatively be heated in passages 33 traversed by heating pipes 34, upcast pipes with valves 35, 36 leading from each upper gas collecting space, and superheating passage 33 respectively. On the side remote from the upcast pipe each passage 33 is connected by a duct 37 with the upper gas space of an adjacent oven. Fuel gas is supplied by burners 45 or 45<1> to the heating pipes 34 through vertical pipes 38, preheated oil from the regenerators being admitted through passage 40 closed at its end by a damper 41. If the distillates are to be cooled in the passages 33, the damper 41 is reversed, placing pipes 40 in communication with passages 42 in the sole of the regenerator, and, by drawing dampers 44, other connections 43 between the upper gas collecting spaces in the ovens and the passages 33 are opened to allow a short path for the distillates. In a modification, a separately heated passage is arranged adjacent the upper gas collecting space. A valve 10, Fig. 2, operated by a chain 12 may be provided to admit the gases from the upper collecting space 4 either direct to the ascension pipe 6 or, as shown, through a heated passage 5 communicating with the space 4 through a number of openings.
