1463116 Purifying lubricating oil TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 6 Feb 1974 [25 April 1973] 05561/74 Heading C5E The viscosity index of a lubricating oil other than an aromatic-rich extract is improved by contact with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a halogen-free hydrogenation catalyst. The feed may be a waxy distillate, a deresined, decarbonized or deasphalted residuum, a naphthenic oil or a hydrocracked residuum. The catalyst may comprise a hydrogenating metal, e.g. Pd, Pt, Co, or Ni, optionally with Mo or W, on a support which may be an amorphous inorganic oxide or a zeolite.
