Abstract

A process for the hydrocracking of a lubricating oil fraction by contacting said fraction with hydrogen in the presence of a halogen-free hydrogenation catalyst, under hydrocracking conditions, characterized in that said hydrogen contains about 0.01 to 10 mol percent of carbon monoxide, calculated on hydrogen, and these hydrocracking conditions comprise a temperature of about 550 to 850ºF (288 to 454ºC), a pressure of about 500 to 5000 psig (35 to 351 kg/cm2 gauge), a space velocity of approximately 0.1 to 5.0 v/v/h and a hydrogen flow rate of approximately 500 to 10,000 SCFB (14.1 to 283 m3/barrel).
