Abstract
1296772 Hydrogenation SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 6 April 1970 [7 April 1969] 16207/70 Heading C5E Jet fuels are produced by contacting a hydrocarbon feed boiling in the kerosene range with a catalyst comprising at least 1% by weight of platinum and at least 0À5% of fluorine on an alumina support at 260-427‹ C. and 35-105 atmospheres gauge in the presence of hydrogen in a hydrogen to hydrocarbon mole ratio between 5 and 20; the water content of the hydrocarbon feed being 10 ppm. or below. Suitable feeds contain paraffins, aromatics and naphthenes, boil between 149 and 316‹ C., and can be hydrocracked fractions. The feed can have been hydrotreated, e.g. at 330-400‹ C. and 28-105 atm. gauge using a catalyst of nickel and molybdenum sulphides on alumina, to remove N, S and metallic compounds and to partially hydrogenate aromatics and can have been dried by passage over a molecular sieve. The hydrogenation with the platinum-containing catalyst hydrogenates aromatics and increases the paraffin content by ring opening.
