Abstract

1458907 Boxes SPRINTER PACK AB 22 April 1974 [9 May 1973] 17595/74 Heading B8P The adjacent ends of carton or tray side wall panels 11-15, Fig. 1 (not shown), are interconnected at each respective corner by a tongue 20, which is hinged along a fold line 21 to one side wall panel 12 and which is only interlockingly receivable through a slit 22 at a fold-line 19 between an adjacent side wall panel 11 and an extension flap 18 by bowing of the side wall 12. The slit has an outer end 23 which is spaced from the corner intersection 36 of the side wall/ bottom wall panel fold lines 16 and 17 by a distance which is substantially the same as the distance between the corner intersection and the bottom 30a of a wedge-shaped gap defined between an outer tongue shoulder portion 35a and a side wall panel edge 12a. Londitudinal bowing of the side wall 12 on erection of the blank permits the outermost part 30b of the tongue to move along a shortened radial path about the fold line 17 and pass through the slit 22. The tongue has an inner shoulder portion 32, which, on erection, is flexed sideways to pass through an inclined lower portion 26 of the slit, this shoulder portion thus springing back to lockingly engage behind a wedge-shaped portion 27 of the flap 18 defined between the slit portion 26 and fold line 19. The grain of the carton blank material extends lengthwise of the side wall 12 to facilitate the bending. In a modification, Fig. 1b (not shown), the side wall 12 is joined along a foldline 28b to the flap extension 18b of the side wall 11, the extension being provided with a 45 degree gusset fold line 34.
