Dynamos, regulating; exciting; regulation of exciting-machines. - The regulator of a dynamo comprises an electro-magnetic switch adapted to vary the current in the field windings and also to effects its reversal. One terminal of the field winding a, Fig. 1, is connected between two resistances o<1>, o<2> forming a shunt across the brushes m<1>, m<2>; while the other terminal of the winding a is connected to the armature b of a magnet b<o>. The armature b is adapted to move between contacts n<1>, n<2> connected to the brushes m<1>, m<2>. Normally the field winding a is connected in series with the resistance o<1> across the brushes m<1>, m<2> through the contact n<2> and armature b, but upon a pre-determined rise in voltage of the dynamo the armature b engages contaci n<1> to reverse the connexion of the winding a and to connect it in series with the resistance o<2>. The resistance o<1> may be dispensed with. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 additional resistances q<1>, q<2> are provided, the latter being under the control of an .electro-magnet r. The resistance o<1> is also under the control of an electro-magnet p. The regulator is adjusted so that the resistances o<1> and q<2> are inserted successively into the circuit of the field winding a before the magnet b<o> operates to reverse the connexions of the winding a.
