Lighting systems; regulation, automatic systems and apparatus for.-A combined automatic regulator and cut-in switch for a variable-speed generator comprises two magnetic circuits, a current coil, a voltage coil and a single resistance adapted to control the exitation of the generator in accordance with current output and voltage. The magnetic circuits of the regulator consist of a straight bar f<5>, a core f<2> and a bracket f<4> to which the arm v<1> of the cut-in switch is pivoted. The regulator E is provided with a current coil e and a spring-controlled armature h carrying a contact 10'. The regulator D is provided with a volt-age coil d<1> and a spring-controlled armature g carrying a contact 9<1>. Under normal conditions the contacts 9', 10<1> engage contacts 9<2>, 10<2> to short-circuit a resistance a in the circuit of the shunt field winding b of the generator b' and under abnormal conditions of current or voltage the armatures hand g vibrate to insert periodically the resistance a.
