208,567. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Carichoff, E. R.). Dec. 18, 1922,. [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Electromagnetic switches for use as electric motorstarting contactors, or other purposes are constructed so that each switch or contactor is composed of two electromagnets 10, 11 with mutually independent fluxes, mounted upon a common base 23 and acting oppositely upon a common pivoted member 13. When a group of such contactors is used for cutting out resistance in starting a motor, all the windings of the magnet 11 are connected in series with one another across the supply 22, and those of the magnets 10 are connected in series with one another across the motor armature A, in order that the contactors may respond to rising counter electromotive force at values differing by approximately constant amounts from the supply voltage, irrespective of fluctuations affecting the whole group, and of temperature changes of individual contactors.
