Abstract

1425459 Coated products COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) LTD 25 Oct 1973 [27 Oct 1972] 49650/72 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] A waterproof structural material comprises a cellular plastics sheet or board of stiffness or apparaent modulus of elasticity at least 70 MN/m<SP>2</SP> having adhered to at least one face thereof a flexible waterproof sheet containing at least 10% bituminous material and at least 15% thermoplastic polymer. The sheets may be bonded by adhesive, e,g. butadiene rubberbitumen, or the cellular plastics may be applied to the sheet as a foamable material, foamed, and cured if necessary. The bituminous material may be of petroleum or coal origin and is preferably coal tar pitch, and the thermoplastic polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer or terpolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate or 1, 1-diohloroethylene, or ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The sheet may also include fibrous fillers, particulate fillers, rubbers and migratory or non-migratory plasticisers, suitable materials being listed. The cellular material may be rigid or semi-rigid, may comprise polyurethane, epoxy resin, polyvinyl chloride or styrene-butadiene rubber, and may contain bituminous material, e.g. coal tar pitch, coal digests. Suitable amounts for the various components of the sheets are given. The other face of the cellular sheet may be adhered to a further waterproof sheet or to decorative laminate or a pvc sheet.
