1429657 Laminates; seaming and finishing edges MONSANTO Ltd 20 May 1974 [25 June 1973] 30050/73 Addition to 1292714 Headings B5N and B5K [Also in Divisions E1-E2] An insulation material suitable for use in the insulation of a roof comprises a composite board comprising a sheet of foamed resin substantially contiguous with a layer of mineral fibre, e.g. of glass or asbestos fibre, the faces of the composite board each having a film of thermoplastic resin thereon at least one of which extends across an edge of the face to provide a margin of film along at least one edge of the composite board. The board may comprise one layer each of foamed resin and mineral fibre or a sandwich structure with a layer of mineral fibre between two sheets of foamed resin or vice-versa. The foamed resin may be produced from a polymer of propylene, butadiene, styrene, vinyl toluene, α-methyl styrene, acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate or ethyl acrylate, and the thermoplastic resin film may be of polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene: The flexibility of the insulation material may be increased compressing the foamed resin sheet. Alternatively the composite board may be in relatively small rectangular pieces laid between the thermoplastic resin films which are sealed together between each piece. The two thermoplastic resin films may be heat- or adhsive-sealed along the edges. A margin may be provided by sealing the films together adjacent the board and along their outer edges, a line of perforations being provided between the two sealing lines. The components of the composite board may be bonded together and/or to the thermoplastic resin films by means of an adhesive, e.g. a polyvinyl acetate, waterglass or bitumen adhesive, which may be applied in longitudinal discrete bands.
