Abstract

1407922 Photographic cyan-forming phenolic colour couplers EASTMAN KODAK CO 1 Feb 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 5120/73 Heading G2C [Also in Division C2] The invention comprises a photographic cyan dye-forming colour coupler which is a phenol having an amino or substituted amino group in the 2-position and an arylthiomethyl, arylselenomethyl or arylsulphonylmethyl group, of which the aryl groups may be substituted, in the 5-position, and may have the formula:- where R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl, acyl, carbamyl or optionally substituted aryl; R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are each H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or optionally substituted aryl; R<SP>3</SP> is optionally substituted aryl; R<SP>4</SP> is H or a group which splits off during colour development; R<SP>7</SP> is H or alkyl; and X is S, Se or SO 2 . The coupler may be in a silver halide material or colour developer.
