Abstract

1397382 Vehicle bodies FRUEHAUF CORP 16 Jan 1973 [1 May 1972] 2223/73 Heading B7B [Also in Division F4] A method of insulating and reinforcing a double skinned trailer body includes the steps of applying shoring plates to the inner and outer surfaces of the body walls and applying and foaming a foamable material between the inner and outer surfaces. The body 10 has a series of inverted U-frames 11, 12 which divide the wall cavity into cells 15. After shoring, a foamable plastics is introduced into the cells from a dispenser 42 having a flexible hose 41. The hose is passed into the foremost cell through apertures in the frame uprights 11 and then progressively withdrawn to fill each cell in turn. The foam is cured by heating before the shoring is removed. The internal shoring plates are carried by an elongate frame 23 cantilevered from a support 18, the side and end plates being of interlocking upper and lower parts 24, 25, the upper parts 24 are connected to the roof shoring plate 31. The plates are positioned by rams 32, 33 and 34, rams 32 and 33 being connected to allow for vertical as well as horizontal movement of the upper parts 24. The external plates may be mounted by rams 36, 38 on a surrounding fixed structure, Figs. 1 and 3, or may be mounted on interconnected frames 51,55 whose vertical position may be altered, Fig. 6. In the latter example the body is engaged by a clam action, the side frames 55 being pivoted upwardly and outwardly on raising the top frame 51. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the top external plate is fixed and the body, with the internal shoring, is moved vertically into contact therewith.
