Abstract

1392026 Cutting tools W MIHIC 17 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 18444/73 Heading B3B A cutting tool, e.g. a parting-off tool comprises a cutting bit 2 which is secured in a recess at one end of a holder 1 by way of a clamping member 4, the bit and the clamping member both being received within the recess so that the top surface of the clamping member does not project above the top surface of the tool holder 1 and obstruct the flow of chips produced during the moding operation. The clamping member may itself engage in a recess 19 in the bit and the bit may be provided with a V-shaped underside when co-operates with a V-shaped groove(s) in the bottom of the recess which provides transverse location of the bit on the holder. In an alternative embodiment the recess bottom and end wall 31 are angles to provide with a corresponding shape of the clamping member a wedging action to aid the clamping of the bit to the holder.
