Abstract

1350100 Clip removal device IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 Oct 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 60394/71 Heading A5R A wound closure clip removal device comprises a pair of jaws 1 which are normally spaced apart and movable about a hinge or fulcrum 2, to space them further apart on squeezing a bow which is composed of a pair of bowed sections 3 joined together by a second hinge or fulcrum 4. The jaws 1 are provided with ridges 5 in a plane normal to that of movement of the jaws which can engage with removal notches on the ends of a wound clip (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The leading edges of the ridges 5 are at a right angle or at 45‹ to the axis of the device. The device is constructed wholly of a plastics material preferably in one piece. Ridges 6 are provided across the fulcrum or pivot 2 to strengthen the device and ensure rigidity in use. In use, the ridges 5 are inserted in the notches (9) of the wound closure clip (10) and the bowed sections 3 are squeezed by pressure applied to gripping surfaces 7 causing the jaws to widen therefore enabling the removal of the clip.
