Abstract

1347622 Washing machines McGRAWEDISON CO 5 Jan 1972 [11 March 1971] 502/72 Heading D1A A laundry machine comprises an imperforate drum 29 mounted for rotation about an inclined axis in a frame 12 and having a loading opening at the upper end and an unloading opening at the lower end which is sealably closeable by a non-rotatable door 52 which is pivoted to the frame 12 at 53. The drum 29 has lifters 44, is part cylindrical/ part frusto-conical and is supported for rotation in the frame by rollers 31, 33 and 34. Laundry placed in a hopper 46 passes through flexible doors (51) (Fig. 5 not shown) and a cylindrical throat 47 into the drum 29 and is unloaded by opening the door 52 after operating either a dump valve 77 or a valve 81 which discharges washing or rinsing liquid through a conduit 79 and a funnel 76 into a reservoir 11 at the bottom of the frame. The liquid in the reservoir 11 is returned to the hopper 46 for re-use by pump. Apart from the chamber for the valves 77 and 81 the rear door 52 includes a wall with apertures 74 to define a door chamber 73 which holds a quantity of washing liquid which mixes with the liquid in the drum 29 and is supplied through respective conduits 84 and (88) (Fig. 2, not shown) with steam for heating the washing liquid and with make-up liquid in dependence upon signals from a thermostat (87) and a liquid level gauge sensitive to the air pressure in a line leading from the conduit 88.
