Abstract
830,739. Washing-machines. MASCHINENFABRIK P. PFENNINGSBERG G.m.b.H. Oct. 1, 1958 [Oct. 11, 1957], No. 31369/58. Class 138 (2). In a two-stage process for an automatic washing-machine comprising a perforated drum 3 rotating about a horizontal axis 2 in a container 1, a continuous supply and discharge of water takes place via inlet 5 and overflow outlet 7 during the first washing stage when heating is effected by heaters 9, while in the second stage the water supply and discharge is discontinued and the heating input is either maintained constant until the end of the process so that the temperature of the washing liquid increases, or it is reduced to maintain the temperature constant. The volume of water supplied is between 0.08 and 0.15 litres per minute per kgm. of dry material washed and the water may be preheated before entering the container. The change over from the first stage to the second stage is automatically effected by regulating valve 10 through control means which respond either to the fixed time interval necessary to attain the required temperature in the first stage, or to the total amount of water supplied. In one embodiment, the first stage is completed when the temperature of the liquid reaches 60- 65 C., the temperature rising to 90-95 C. with a constant heat input during the second stage. In a second embodiment for articles heavily soiled with oil the heating input for the first stage is increased so that a temperature of 90-95 C. is reached, the heating being reduced during the second stage to maintain a constant temperature. The washing-machine may operate with a normal washing process and with either of these two-stage processes.
