Abstract
1344255 Road-marking compositions PRISMO UNIVERSAL Ltd 28 May 1971 [3 March 1970] 10206/70 Addition to 1091041 Heading C3P Thermoplastic road marking compositions comprise by weight (1) 15 to 30% of a thermoplastic binder, (2) 0 to 30% of a filler of particle size not exceeding 75 microns, (3) 10 to 30% of reflective glass beads and (4) the balance of aggregate of particle size greater than 75 microns, the binder consisting of 45 to 100% of polymerized unsaturated hydrocarbon and 0 to 55% of a hydrocarbon oil stable at 300‹ F. and containing at least sufficient metal salt of an organic acid to counteract the tendency of the glass beads to sink. The metal salt should be added to the binder before incorporating the other ingredients. The salt may be a calcium salt, and may be formed in situ from calcium carbonate present in the compositions by adding a fatty acid. The salts may be of tall oil acids, succinic acid, aromatic acids and phenols. Many other acids and other ingredients are specified and examples describe compositions formed from (1 and 2) tall oil fatty acids and (3) aluminium stearate together with hydrocarbon oil, petroleum resin, sand, crushed calcite ballotini, whiting and titanium dioxide.
