Abstract

1331890 Cleaning vehicle lamp glasses GENERAL MOTORS CORP 6 July 1972 [25 Aug 1971] 31711/72 Heading A4F [Also in Division F4] A vehicle headlamp 37 and a flasher lamp 39 have a common lens 42 having an offset portion 55 through which the flasher lamp 39 emits light inclined laterally of the headlamp beam, and a wiper blade 49 movable by drive mechanism over the lens 42 has an offset portion for wiping the lens portion 55. The wiper blade 49 is moved up and down by an electric motor driven crank 53 which oscillates the wiper arm 48 carrying the blade 49 whilst a pivoted guide arm 50 maintains the blade horizontal. Washing water is supplied through the arm 50 to be discharged through a nozzle 72 set so that water is projected partly behind and partly onto the blade 49 to prevent rotation of the arm 50 about its longitudinal axis. In other embodiments (a) wiper blades of two headlamp and flasher lamp assemblies are movable simultaneously by a common horizontal arm 18 Fig. 1, (not shown) reciprocated vertically by crank mechanism (b) the wiper blade of each headlamp and flasher lamp assemby is movable by a bent arm 32 Fig. 4, (not shown) which extends around one side of the assembly and is reciprocated vertically by a crank oscillating on an axis inclined to the axis of symmetry of the headlamp (c) the wiper blade has separate portions engaging headlamp and flasher lamp portions, respectively of the lens, the blade portions being variously inter-connected.
