Abstract

1490379 Cleaning vehicle lamps FIAT SpA 17 Oct 1975 [30 Oct 1974] 42782/75 Heading A4F The concave diffuser 26 of a lighting or signalling lamp of a vehicle is cleaned by a rotary wiper driven by a drive unit mounted centrally on the diffuser, the drive unit driving a curved wiper blade 48 which in some positions extends beyond the edge of the diffuser the curvature of the blade allowing its end to clear bodywork 2 adjacent the lamp. As shown the drive unit comprises an electric motor 28 and a reduction gearbox 34 coupled to a wiper arm 46, the arm 46 being shaped to clear the outlet of a cleaning liquid feed tube 14 projecting from the diffuser 26 and extending through the lamp. The diffuser 26 may be of generally rectangular shape in which case the blade length is at least half the width of the diffuser, and the blade is desirably at least as long as the distance between the centre and one corner of the diffuser so that during each revolution of the blade 48 it wipes the entire front face 24 of the diffuser.
