Abstract

1386928 Cleaning vehicle head-lamp glasses SOC ANON POUR L'EQUIPEMENT ELECTRIQUE DES VEHICULES SEV MARCHAL 25 Sept 1973 44912/73 Heading A4F A vehicle head-lamp wiping apparatus comprises a mounting plate 6, Fig.1, or housing 207, Fig.8, mountable on the exterior of a head-lamp, and, mounted on the plate 6 or housing 207, a lenswiper (17,18) Fig.2, (not shown) or 204, driving means, e.g. an electric motor (7) (Fig.2) or 208, Fig.8 for oscillatably pivoting the wiper, and transmission means connecting the driving means and wiper. In the first embodiment the transmission means comprises a crank 9 on the motor spindle, connecting rod 10, and an arm 12 oscillatable about a spindle 13 and formed with a toothed quadrant 14 engaging a bevel pinion 15 on the wiper shaft 16. A cam 23 on a plate 20 oscillatable with the arm 12 actuates a pawl and ratchet mechanism 24, 26 to rotate a cam 31 controlling a micro-switch 33 whereby after a wiper switch is closed the wiper motor is energized for ten sweeps of the wiper and then stopped. A further cam 21 on the plate 20 actuates a microswitch 22 once per wiper sweep to energize a pump to deliver washing liquid to the head-lamp lens. Electrical circuitry is described for the control of a washer pump and the wiper motors associated with two head-lamps. In the second embodiment the wiper motor 208 drives the wiper spindle 228 via a crank disc 236, connecting rod 238, and a slider 225 formed with a rack 231 engaging a pinion 230 on the wiper spindle 228. After the closing of a wiper switch the wiper motor 208 is energized to reciprocate the slider 225 five times before being stopped under the control of a micro-switch 219 controlled by a cam 217 driven by the slider 225 via pawl and ratchet mechanism 224, 216. A further micro-switch 233 operated by a cam 234 on the slider 225 energizes a washer pump once for reciprocation of the slider. The housing 207 has a symmetry such that it can be mounted on a left or a right hand vehicle head-lamp, the endpieces 224, 216 of the housing being interchangeable and the ratchet mechanism 224, 216 being mountable on either side of the motor 208. In each embodiment the wiper is in the form of a brush; and in the second embodiment the wiper motor may be an electrically controlled pneumatic or hydraulic motor.
