Abstract

1303401 Laminated products BIGELOWSANFORD Inc 19 April 1971 [14 Dec 1970] 24741/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] A pile fabric having pile yarns of predetermined colouring when subjected to a specific dye and having considerable spacing between adjacent pile yarns comprises a non-woven backing of deposited fibres through which the pile yarns extend, the backing having a colouring when subjected to the specific dye preventing compatible matching with the colour of the pile yarns, the fibres being vertically intermixed by needling, and a non-woven layer on the top surface of the backing which is thinner than the backing, has a colouring when subjected to the dye that compatibly matches the dyed colour of the pile yarns and is needled to the backing by further needling. The deposited backing is of polyethylene or polypropylene fibres and may include a layer of cheesecloth. The non- woven layer is of nylon 6, nylon 66, polyacrylonitrile, polyester or blended fibres and the pile yarns are of nylon 6 or nylon 66 and may be of different colours or dye affinities. After needling, the surfaces of the backing may be heated to fuse the surface fibres or treated with an acrylic latex or sprayed water-resistant latex. A latex adhesive may be applied to the bottom of the fabric to secure the pile ends and a layer of foam rubber or jute may be adhered to the fabric.
