Abstract
1293175 Heavy water CANADIAN GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 13 Oct 1969 [23 Nov 1968] 50207/69 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] In a dual temperature deuterium concentration process involving isotope exchange between countercurrent streams of H 2 S and water, a portion of the downflowing water drawn off from the dehumidifier 19 of cold towers 17 through lines 49 to a mixing header 70, and the water is then passed via conduits 78 to hot towers 21. The isotope concentration in the hot towers are monitored, and the valves 76 are adjusted so that the water flow into the towers 21 is such as to produce the desired isotopic concentration in these towers. The rest of the water in line 49 is recycled via pump 61, and any water not drawn off through line 49 overflows into lines 50, and hence passes to hot towers 21. H 2 S gas passes upwardly through hot towers 21 and then through the cold towers 17.
