Abstract
128,381. Fanning, S. R. June 17, 1918. Maps, charts, and diagrams.-In a cabinet for displaying maps, charts, diagrams, &c., the map &c. is mounted on rollers 19, 20 which may be driven alternatively by a master gear 46, the non-driven roller being disconnected from the gear automatically. The rollers are provided with pinions 30, 31 adapted to be engaged with pinions 57, 58 meshing with the wheel 46 and mounted on a rocking bar 53 pivoted loosely on the axis of the wheel 46. The bar 53 and its pinions are turned through an angle limited by stops 61, 62 so as to engage one or the other pinion with a pinion 30 or 31 respectively according to the direction of the rotation of the wheel 46, the other pinion being disengaged and rotating idly so that its corresponding roller is allowed to rotate freely under the tension of the maps being unwound therefrom. The gear 46 may be rotated by a handle directly applied to its axle or through bevel-wheels 64, 65 when it is desired to operate the arrangement from the front of the cabinet. The rollers &c. are mounted in a frame 14 and enclosed by a flat curtain 7 when not in use. The map passes in front of a backing board 9.
