Abstract
193,897. Foster, J. Oct. 4, 1921. Reel and non-endless web apparatus. - An advertising device, detachably mounted on a vehicle, comprises a framework A on each sideof which is a panel one of which is shown extended in the Figure. The panel B contains split rollers D and a band C, the front portion of which passes through the rollers and the rear portion I bears transparent colours. Alternatively, a band may be employed, attached to the top and bottom rollers D, alternate rollers then being provided with a tensioning device which tends to keep them wound. The band bears advertisements &c., or may have slits Q into which wires F carrying flexible members E painted, perforated, &c. with letters &c. can be slipped. Alternate rollers D are rotated in the same direction by chains or cords O engaging sprocket wheels N on spindles J carrying spur wheels M engaged by a crown-wheel L having interrupted teeth. The crown-wheel is driven by geneva stop motion and reversing gear. In a modification the panels B contain semi-transparent plane surfaces on which the advertisements are cast by optical-projection through lenses P on a structure K similar in form to that of the framework A, the spools being operated by the spindles J and the films passing through rollers as on the panels B. The framework A may revolve either vertically or horizontally. Specifications 402/97 and 29263/13 are referred to.
