Abstract

1280981 Cigarette-making machines MOLINS MACHINE CO Ltd and E G PRESTON 18 July 1969 [19 July 1968] 34609/68 Heading A2C A continuous rod making machine includes two independantly operable rod breaking mechanisms, the first one of which is operable to provide a new leading end when the machine is started and the second of which can be operated to break or cut the running rod. The first mechanism comprises a guide element 5 which initially diverts the rod C as shown in Fig. 1 from its straight path arid, when the machine has reached a sufficient speed, is withdrawn by the action of a solenoid 19 to the position shown in Fig. 2. This action breaks the rod C and allows its new leading end to pass into a rod receiving device 3 which may lead to a cigarette cut off. The second mechanism comprises an arm 21 that includes a rod guide 23. The guide 23, when swung down about a pivot 22 by a solenoid 26, cuts or breaks the rod C against an edge of a fixed member 24 and diverts the running rod C to the position shown in dash-dot lines in Fig. 2.
