Abstract

935,141. Cigar making machines. ARENCO A.B. Jan. 12, 1962 [Jan. 18, 1961], No. 1295/62. Class 130. To separate cigar or cigarette bunches B joined by a wrapper strip W, a rotary knife 1 is provided in a holder 3 which rotates about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the knife and to the direction of feed of the cigar rod R. The rod is advanced by rollers 4, 5, driven by bevel gearing from a shaft 7. The knife 1 is rotated by a belt 16 driven by gearing through a shaft 20 in turn driven from the shaft 7 by a belt 22 and further transmission, not shown. The holder 3 has a gear 24 fast thereon which is driven from shaft 7 by gears 31, a shaft 28, a magnetic clutch 29, a shaft 26 and a gear 25. In operation, the knife 1 is normally in a plane parallel to the rod R. When a constriction C between two cigar bunches passes a feeler 32 the clutch 29 is operated to cause rotation of the holder 3 so that the knife rotates and severs the bunches at the constriction, as shown. When the knife has rotated through 180 degrees a contact device 36 causes the clutch 29 to disengage until the following constriction C is severed by the feeler 32.
