Abstract

773,017. Applying mouthpieces to cigarettes and cigars. KORBER, K. July 5, 1955 [Sept. 18, 1954], No. 19381/55. Class 130 Assemblies of double-length filter mouthpieces M and cigarettes or cigarillos Zl, Z2 carried on a rotating drum 1, 2 are turned by a stationary or oppositelyrotating drum 5 to wrap uniting bands 8 about them. A belt 7 moving faster than the assemblies assists turning. Drum por-. tions 1, 2 are fast on a shaft 3 and have assembly-receiving flutes the walls of which project over the drum 5 as mouthpiece-locating tongues 1b, 2b. The drum 5, which has a rubber &c. surface 5a, may be driven by a friction gear 6 powered from the drive gear 4 of the shaft 3 via an idler 4a meshing a pinion on the shaft of the gear 6; or the drum 5 may be driven from the shaft 3 via planetary or other gearing, when the tongues 1b, 2b may meet. When the drum 5 is rotary, its surface speed is less than that of the belt 7.
