A device for transferring two or more adjoining rows of staggered cigarettes or the like transversely to their axes, with simultaneous axial alignment, from a takeoff drum 82 supplied from a cigarette rod machine to an assembly conveyer 77 for assembling filters F and cigarette lengths Z1, Z2 in a filter cigarette machine is characterised in that the drum 82 is adjustable relatively to the rod axis of the cigarette machine. The drum 82, in the grooves of which cigarette lengths Z1, Z2 are received from a cigarette rod machine having a discharge which may be at different levels, together with aligning discs 80, 81 and the assembly conveyer 77, is mounted in a supporting plate 79 pivoted about the axis 76 of the conveyer 77. The drive of the device is derived through gears 83-88 and 91-93.
