594,861. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS, D. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. July 3, 1945, No. 16866. [Class 130] In a continuous rod machine a device for deflecting the rod between the heater and the cutting mechanism while the machine is starting up, comprises a deflector element 8 and a cutter 13 which when the element is moved to its inoperative position cuts the rod. The deflector, formed by a twisted plate is held in its operative position by a catch 12 against a spring 11 which returns it when the catch is lifted. The knife 13 operates against the end of a guide trough 14, or some other edge. The deflector is arranged so that there is no check to the forward movement of the rod when it is operated. Specifications 430,742 and 462,540 are referred to.
