590,126. Cigarette-making machines. CHAZE, P. April 13, 1945, No. 9242. Convention date, May 11, 1943. [Class 130] A device for feeding tobacco to a cigarettemaking machine of the type in which paper tubes are filled, comprises a hollow container 10 which has a swinging movement in contact with a slotted trough 5 so that the correct amount of tobacco for each cigarette is fed through the slot, the width of which may be adjustable. The tobacco is pressed down by a plunger 12, perforated at 14 for the escape of air, and held down by a pair of springs 15 which hold the container in one or the other extreme position as it is swung over the slot 4. The tobacco is then compressed by a sliding member 20 against a spoon 19a which leads it into a paper cigarette tube when pushed transversely. The device is particularly adapted for use with the machine described in Specification 464,948.
