938,964. Continuous rod cigarette-making machines. G. F. W. POWELL, and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Dec. 20, 1961 [Dec. 22, 1960], No. 44070/60. Class 130. Detecting apparatus for a continuous-rod cigarette-making machine having a rod heater 2 comprises a suction detector 5 adjacent a path when the cigarettes move axially in line and arranged to make a signal when cigarettes cease to pass it at the proper time, the signal causing the rod heater to move out of contact with the rod. When cigarettes cease to pass the detector 5, lack of suction in the diaphragm of a switch 10 causes contacts 10A to break. Breaking of switch 10A breaks the circuit to a relay 11 which, through contact 11D, applies current to a time delay switch 17 which, in turn, closes its contacts 17A to energize the rod heater magnet 14 and thus cause the rod heater to be raised clear of the rod. Contacts 10A are also connected in the circuit of the machine driving motor so that opening of the contacts also causes the machine to stop. Specification 875,330 is referred to.
