Abstract
1,253,759. Magnetic switches. BENDIX CORP. 27 Aug., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 42558/69. Heading H1N. A double-acting piston is arranged to be moved on pressure differential to divert magnetic flux to a magnetic contact device and provide sufficient flux on restoration to its initial position to hold the contacts closed. As applied to a vehicle brake pressure unbalance alarm system the pressure supplies are connected to chambers 66, 68 on opposite sides of a magnetic piston 20 in a cylinder 18. Screws 70, 72 in end housings 50, 52 are adjustable to move pistons 22, 24 to set the compression of springs 26, 28 which bear on opposite sides of the piston 20 to maintain it in a normal position in which its annuli 78, 80 bridge flux guides 38, 40 to divert flux from a permanent magnet 34 which closes contacts 42, 44 of a reed contact unit 36 when the piston is moved from its flux diverting position. Alternatively the piston may include a permanent magnet and be arranged to bridge flux guides when displaced by pressure differential (Fig. 2, not shown) or be arranged to complete the flux path of a fixed permanent magnet when in its central position (Fig. 3, not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,103,118.
