Abstract

1,242,894. Annular radiators. M. BEHR, [trading as SUDDEUTSCHE KUHLERFABRIK JULIUS FR. BEHR]. 9 Sept., 1968 [13 Sept., 1967], No. 42741/68. Heading F4S. An annular radiator particularly for the coolant circuit of an I.C. engine to which a cooling air flow is directed axially by a blower (not shown) for radially outward flow therethrough comprises annular or part annular coolant carrying elements 2, Fig. 3, which are spaced in the axial direction of the radiator and have radially extending cooling fins 3 arranged between adjacent elements, so that adjacent fins act as a diffuser on the radially flowing air. The fins are subdivided in the radial direction into groups by axially extending gaps therebetween. The elements 2 are divided by coaxial annular partitions 19<SP>1</SP> into annular passages 19. Coolant e.g. water passes from an inlet 12, Fig. 2 through distributer pipes 16, 17 to a receiving vessel 11 on the diametrically opposite side of the radiator for flow in semicircular paths in the passages 19 to a receiving vessel 10 having an outlet 13. The cooling air flow is radially directed by a multiple diffuser formed by air guide plates 22, 23, 24 so arranged and constructed as to have similar inlet and outlet areas.
