Abstract

1,224,516. Boots &c. J. J. FINN. 31 Oct., 1968, No. 51587/68. Heading A3B. A device for insertion in a shoe to prevent the wearer's foot 9 from rising above the insole of the shoe during walking consists of a valve-vented, closed, expandable bellows 11 which extends from the back of the counter portion 7 of the upper 3 and which has a foot engaging member on its forward end. The bellows 11 is inflated by a tube 15. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) the foot engaging member consists of a scoop-like member 13. In a modification (Fig. 3) the foot engaging member 21 is provided with fingers 23 which run in slots in tracks 25 to guide the forward-rearward movement of the member 21. Suitable materials for the bellows 11 are plastics, e.g. polyethylene, semi-rigid rubber or thin tough metals.
